  • Lower cesarean rates — people with doula support have been shown to have a 47% lower risk of cesarean delivery

  • Fewer preterm births — doula-supported pregnancies show a 29% lower risk of preterm birth

  • Shorter labors — continuous support is linked to reduced labor duration and less pain

  • Higher breastfeeding rates — families with doula support are more likely to initiate and maintain breastfeeding

  • Better postpartum follow-through — doula-supported individuals are 46% more likely to attend their postpartum checkup

  • Less stress and anxiety — research shows doulas lower maternal stress and anxiety during labor, not just the clinical outcomes, but the emotional experience of birth itself

The Becoming of a Doula

In 2019 I had the immense privilege & honor of attending my nephews birth. I stayed up through the night supporting my brother and his girlfriend as best I knew how through the labor, delivery, and first postpartum hours. Little did I know this would be the first of many births that I would attend. Birth is such a transformative experience for a mother and a child. It’s also a transformative experience for those supporting the birth space, which was the case for me that day in 2019.

Witnessing the raw and sacred act of birth and the village that wraps around the mother and the child to guide them through this transition changed me forever. So much so that I considered a total career shift into labor and delivery nursing! At the time I was unaware of the role of a childbirth doula, but soon after discovering doula work I was set on my next career endeavor.

In 2021, that dream became a reality and doula work became intertwined into the story of who I am and how I choose to offer myself to the world. It’s a great joy of mine to join families in one of the most beautiful transitions of becoming that can be experienced in this life. The becoming of a mother, a father, a new life on this earth. And it would be my great joy and honor to support you and your family through your own becoming throughout your birth journey.
